Treasures galore

One of the girls I work with suggested recently that maybe I should start getting Chris to have a weigh-in every few recipes. He has an amazingly fast metabolism and never seems to put on any weight (sigh), but then again, it is A LOT of cake that he has been taste-testing (and re-taste-testing) for me these past few weeks.

So while I was in Auckland the other weekend to visit my good friend Stella, we went hunting in a few op-shops. I was so excited about all the new discoveries to be made in previously unexplored terrain - and rightly so, because look at these amazing scales that I found... at a mere $4!

How awesome are these? Not to mention my second-biggest-score of the weekend - found in an antique shop in Paeroa on the way home - was this set of pretty nesting enamel bowls.

See them in all their floral glory!I love them so much I couldn't choose just ONE photo.

I fell in love with them immediately. I would of put them as my number-one-score, but they were $15 so it didn't feel quite like as much of a bargain as the bathroom scales. Still, they are pretty wonderful. (And Stell, if you are reading this, when I saw them my first thought "OH-MY-GOSH Stella would love these" and (I have to admit it) I did really want to give them to you as a birthday present.... But I kinda wanted them in my kitchen even more. Oh, am I a bad friend? I'll definately keep my eyes peeled for something equally as awesome come June. Promise.) Stella made some pretty great discoveries herself, I was totally jealous of her retro flour, rice and sugar containers.

Slightly selfish decision-making and big op-shop scores aside, the biggest highlight of my weekend was seeing this little treasure again. Isn't she beautiful?

  1. Ha ha, we are so similar Rach! I've done that before (bought you a present and then found myself unable to part with it!), but honestly, I'm glad you kept them, I've had such amazing op shop luck lately it would be unfair to take yours too! Also, I was in one of those funny asian import shops today and saw some really similar umbrellas, so that might be where it came from...
