We've been living in Perth for coming up three weeks now, and yesterday I managed to cook up a storm with my first batch of baking! Alas I still don't have my trusty guide/cookbook (A.K.A "How to be a Domestic Goddess"), so instead I made our family favourite - and this blog's namesake - Ginger Crunch!
The pantry in our new home was a little bare, so I had to find and buy ingredients (I found THE BEST bulk foods stall at Malaga Markets, where I managed to purchase heeeaaaaps of organic ground ginger for a mere 29c), and also our cupboards are a little bare when it comes to utensils/dishes etc... luckily ginger crunch is a very easy and forgiving recipe and I managed to crank out a small batch (I make it with a regular size base, and a double recipe of icing.. yummm!) in a wee casserole dish. Unfortunately I never managed to get a photo for my blog as the whole lot only lasted several hours! Poor Chris, he's probably missing his weekly cakes and cupcakes.
My next step: raiding all the Sallies stores (or 'Salvos' as they call them here), Vinnies and Red Cross shops to stock up on cake tins, muffin tins and oven trays. I can't wait to get back into it... I just hope that the heat over here doesn't make my want to avoid the kitchen at all times!
So glad to hear you are settling in. Goodluck with the Oppies, I hope they are good to you :)
