A very special lady

So this is my very-first-post on my first-ever-blog, and I have to admit I was a wee bit apprehensive about this whole idea to start with... mainly because I am not all that confident that I can make my everyday life sound exciting enough that anybody else would want to read about it. But then I found my friend Stella's blog and I was amazed at quickly I became glued-to-the-monitor while reading about her adventures scouring op-shops and making wonderful crafty things. And not to mention all the photos of my beautiful god-daughter Eleanor. All the same, it has taken me several weeks just to get to this stage - not that I am lacking in ideas, just the motivation (bane of my life).

I have decided I am dedicating this blog to my late grandmother Marion May Wharry - one of three 'domestic goddesses' in my life (the others being my mother - who's pantry I am often found rifling through, and my Grandma Jacquie - who always has the most amazing jams and homegrown produce). Whenever family descended on her house, Grandma Wharry would always greet us with a smile, a hug and a huge Tupperware container filled with ginger crunch (as a child I was never interested in the base, only the sticky, delicious icing which I used to scrape off with my fingers). But now I can't help myself and I eat the whole damn lot.

So a while ago when I was thinking about these three domestic goddesses who bless my life with their tasty treats - and how I wish wish wish that someday I will be as amazing as them - I had a bit of an brainwave... I decided that I am going to cook my way through Nigella Lawson's "How to be a Domestic Goddess". It's quite a daunting and ambitious task, but I am actually very excited about it. And if I just work through it page-by-page it won't seem quite so scary...

I have laid down a few rules for myself too-
  1. I am going to try and work my way through at least two recipes a week (lets see if I can stick to that one)
  2. I'm only doing the recipes that we like the look of, so I may skip a few that aren't really my cup of tea, or even some that use seasonal fruits or ingredients that are hard to come by.

I only hope that Chris doesn't mind having to eat fresh baking every day....
